Chongqing Vocational College of Public Transportation is a full-time ordinary vocational and technical college invested and founded by Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd., a state-owned key enterprise in Chongqing, which is approved by Chongqing People's Government and registered by Ministry of Education. It is the only vocational college in transportation industry with urban rail, high-speed rail and smart transportation as the main body in Chongqing. It is a talent training base for rail, railway and public transportation industries in Chongqing and Southwest China. Meanwhile, it is a R&D application promotion base for intelligent transportation technology.

Located in Shuangfu New District, Jiangjin, Chongqing, the college has 27 majors in 6 departments including Vehicles and Machinery, Rail Electric Equipment, Railway and Construction Engineering, Transportation and Trade, Automotive Engineering and Humanities and Arts. There are 7592 full-time academic education students, 60 international students (including 4 foreign teachers) and 492 faculty members. 

The college is the construction (cultivation) unit of Chongqing Quality Vocational College, the sponsoring university of China-ASEAN Rail Transit Education and Training Association, vice president of China-Thailand Vocational Education Association, and council member of Chinese Society of Vocational and Technical Education Association Rail Transit Professional Committee, China Rail Transit Vocational Education Group, Chongqing (International) Monorail Association, Chongqing Vocational Education Association, Chongqing Higher Vocational Education International Cooperation Alliance. It is the first vocational college to take driving skills and safety training of large passenger buses into vocational education. It is the first batch of new-type “apprentice ship system” pilot colleges recognized by Municipal Human Resources Security Bureau, Municipal Finance Bureau, Municipal Education Commission, Municipal Economic and Information Commission, and Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission. 

In April 2015, Zhang Dejiang, the incumbent chairman of Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, inspected the college, praised the results and instructed the college to train talents for the development of rail and public transportation for partner countries along the “Belt and Road” actively.
